Snow Day

Wow!  We have snow this morning!  It is a couple of inches deep and very beautiful. And I am at home enjoying it as we are not working today. There is much to be grateful for today. I am knowing that everyone who must be out traveling in today’s weather does so in complete safety.
I had the opportunity to attend a class in Florida at the last minute last week. The class itself was awesome – more about that later – and for about 4 days I was in a sleep deprived state. I am a person who normally gets about 8 and a half hours of sleep a night, but for 3 nights running I had less than 6. By the fourth day, I found myself easily distracted by just about anything. Focusing on the task at hand was difficult,
The upside of it was that there were time when I felt like I was getting direct communication from Spirit. It would come in bursts lasting five to ten minutes at a time. I suspect that because I was so tired, my monkey mind chatter just wasn’t there, and Spirit more easily came through. I was able to write the ideas down and I feel blessed to have them.
I am not advocating sleep deprivation as a method of connecting with Spirit, but reminding you (and me) that if we are open, Spirit can come through at any point… even when we are not expecting it.
Life is beautiful. Enjoy it.

Frantic at Holiday Time?

I’ve noticed that some years the holiday season seems frantic and other years everything seems to fall into place easily.
For many years, I have stressed during the holiday season about: the right gifts, the perfect wrapping, the Christmas cards, who is coming to celebrate and when, what we are going to eat and so on.  Early in my first marriage, my parents divorced and there was pressure from each to spend time with them – and usually they wanted the same time – as well as with my husband’s family. ARRRGHHH!  I decided early on that I wouldn’t do that to my kids. Dinner is at 2 on Christmas day, come if it fits your schedule, and know that we love you anyway if it doesn’t.
Some years I send Christmas cards and other years I don’t.  One year I sent them in July… when I had the time. (I got the cards on sale after Christmas, too.) In these days of gift bags, wrapping is much easier, too.
One of the things we notice this time of year is how many people choose to leave the planet… or spend days in the hospital recovering from flu or other illness. This is the time to take the best care of yourself that you can. If you’re feeling stressed, take a five minute meditation break, or a 15 minute power nap. Try to remember to plan down time – so you can read, or pray, or walk, or cuddle your honey (whether it be person or animal), get plenty of sleep and drink lots of water. None of this is new advice. You’ve heard it before, and some of you have even given it to me.
One of the best things to do is to celebrate the season. You can do this with music (sing or play), or go to a Christmas performance, or watch one on TV.  You can give to someone else.  Contribute to the food bank, send money to the tornado victims or the poor in your community.
Most importantly, take a deep breath, and remember that it is ALL GOD. Remember that God right where you are, no matter what is going on.
